embankment of Volga river, Samara 2016
program: art object, 4 temporary viewing points
The author's project «Viewpoints» consists in developing the space of embankments through sociocultural practices, transforming the embankment through the creation of a modern pop-up infrastructure for observing the Volga River. The exposition «Viewpoints» is four observation platforms, each of which studies different types of behavior of citizens on the embankment, which is expressed in different scenarios of using objects, expressed in architectural form.
No. 1 Game in Meander
The point of observation through the game, where the visitor is involved in the search for the viewing point, wanders around the maze and finds a view site. The goal of the game is to find a «point of observation», and the reward is a view of the Volga from a height above the maze.
No. 2 Inspection swing
Points of individual observation of the Volga. The object represents several monumental city chairs, inviting the visitor to personally observe the Volga alone, as well as in a couple, in a family or in a company.
No. 3 Painting
Point of collective observation. The object is an indoor area focused on the island. Considering the landscape at the same time becomes a general action, and the facade structure becomes a frame for the landscape. The space inside the object contributes to the joint contemplation of the river, work or shelter from rain and sun.
No. 4 I-mobile (Authors: Alexander Shutkin, Irina Fishman)
Point of dynamic observation. The moving observation deck allows you to interact with the main measurement of the embankment - with a length, offering to view the view of the Volga from different points, moving along the water line.
