Green Island is an important part of the natural framework of the city and a model of work with other islands of the water area, which includes 40 nearby islands. Conflict-free interaction of nature with man is achieved through zoning, regulating activities in already used zones. Residents of the island receive infrastructure that does not disrupt its natural well-being, but realizes the potential of water, recreational, sports and eco-educational tourism.

Using the upcycling approach, iconic objects are saved and technological debris is reused. The island becomes the center of the social and natural network of the city while maintaining its identity.
To restore and develop biodiversity on the island, a number of endemic crops are maintained and planted. Work with landscaping takes place according to the principles «Planetary Garden» (Gilles Clément term).

Social content of Green Island

Master plan for the development of the five territories of Saratov «culture of nature/nature of culture» is created by an international consortium led by Novaya Zemlya company, which included Novaya Zemlya, Studio M4, AB SNOU project, AB Novoye, 8 lines, Mae Architects, Wagon Landscaping, Grace Office and Laboratorio Permanente, experts like Ilya Mochalov, Svetlana Vasilyeva, Alexey Levashov, Dmitry Chunosov, Alexander Bashkatov

The main idea of the project is that Saratov needs, as in the past, to make a qualitative leap in the development of innovation and human capital. To do this, you need to find something that you can push away from. The project «culture of nature/nature of culture» indicates the main resources of development, components of Saratov's identity.
